Foreword
Gasoline octane booster MMT can raise RON,
delay cylinder wear, save energy, and reduce NO emission. This handle book has
detailed description about MMT safety and copy steps---discharge, storage, and
gasoline blending and relative information.
MMT is a light yellow transparent liquid
with fresh grass flavor. If over inhale, swallow or skin contact will cause poisoning. It is often happened when
long time working at hermetic space. So we suggest to avoid inhale MMT vapor for
long time. And pls. carefully wash your hands with soap before eating or
smoking after touch MMT.

strengthen the below protection
1.
avoid handle under light---MMT
is sensitive under sunlight. When meet sunlight, it will quickly decomposed
into Manganese oxide, carbonate salts and derivative of cyclopentadiene, the
half life under strong light is less than 1 min; gasoline with MMT under long
time sunlight will have red-brown deposits. Keep away from light, MMT and
gasoline with MMT can be kept for long time. Therefore, pls. don’t design
storage tanks with visual liquid level meter.
Gasoline sample with MMT must be hold in opaque container or metal
bottle. The lab staff must strictly keep MMT from sunlight and make sure there
is no deposits before make analysis.
2.
Keep ventilation---MMT under
room temperature volatilized a little, open container leakage might cause
vapor; under high temperature and hermetic space will increase vapor
concentration. So must keep good ventilation to avoid over inhale and bad
influence on environment.
3.
It is proved that MMT under no
light is stable, don’t need protection gas like Nitrogen or other inert gas or glycerin

MMT is comparatively stable
under hot environment(see details in MSDS)

MMT can be solid under cold
temperature(see details in MSDS), if keep MMT under cold weather for long time,
pls.take some anti-freeze matter.

Pls. make leakage matter around
storage tanks, like cofferdam or Coagulation tank to collect leakage. And
pls.also set fire-fighting equipments.
8.
In MMT handling place, it should
have fire hydrant or sprinkler, to avoid fire disaster. Within 15 m from MMT
storage and blending system, it should have safe shower head or eye washer.
Part 1 STORAGE
MMT is toxic and flammable. Blending system
should prevent liquid leak, and high concentration vapor. Tube hold MMT should be 80# carbon steel,
connecting by welding except these place which might be dismantled under maintains.
The dismantling tube with diameter 1inch or less should be connected by Flange.
Suggest to check welding with X-Ray, so that can easily find the problem
MMT is thermal stable, it can be safely transported
by pump, can be blended by pump, Nitrogen pressurization or vacuum transfer, it
is up to customer’s habit.
1.1 design

storage quantity: suggest to
keep enough MMT for 3 month’s use, and at the same time with 15% empty tank
2.
blend mode: MMT equipment must
be suit for current or planning gasoline blending control and cycling system

storage place: should be put at
easily delivered and convenience place for blending gasoline

environment requirement:
control the suitable volume and meet environment requirement. storage tanks
should be put on concrete ground with Cofferdam and oil
pool
5.
fire-fighting requirement: at
MMT operation place, set fire hydrant or sprinkler with monitor, to kill the
biggest fire.
6.
material: table 1 list
the appropriate mmt material. we suggest to use high-quality Gate valve or ball valve, which is made of carbon steel or
316#. and use PTFE(or similar high quality material) as seal or packing, to
seal the pump, metering device, pressure meter, inside tank blender, etc.

Recommend: follow API 650 to design, produce and construct tanks. weld should
be inspected by X-Ray according to API650 Chapter 6.1. minimum thickness of
board: bottom and body 1/4 inch, Self-supporting cone top 3/16 inch, set 2-1/2 inch*2-1/2
inch*1/4 inch enhancing board at connecting place of tank top and tank body.
storage tanks should have oil pool and discharge exit. according to officer
requirment, storage tanks should have concrete foundation with higher
cofferdam. should set emergency discharge equipment according to chapter 2.2,
5.2 of NFPA 30.
When produce small quantity gasoline,
u can use MMT transportation tanks as storage tanks
Discharge equipment: can use Centrifugal
pump to discharge the cargo, but operator must make sure the input Nitrogen
pressure is lower than tanks' max pressure. we recommend to use good mechanical
seal pump which also suitable for benzene, Toluene, xylene. oval gear flow
meter, suitable positive displacement volume tester or quality flow meter FQI
which can be used to calculate additive's delivered quantity
if to put safe valve at gear pump's
exit, then u can use gear pump to substitute centrifugal pump.
can use nitrogen's pressure to
transport MMT from portable tank to storage tank, but pls.take care:
1. make sure the nitrogen pressure
lower than tanks' pressure standard
2.make sure all the interface passed
leakage test before put pressure into system
3.make sure the storage tanks' vent
is open before transfer the product.
Part.2 blending
2-1 control system
MMT is blending into gasoline with
much lower dosage, so we require to select a special control system and clearly
understand the flow rate of additive and gasoline. to make easily operation,
pre-blending MMT and blend MMT into dilution status might be good. there are
many flow meter can test very low flow rate additives. meter pump and platform
scale can also show low flow rate data.
2-2 blending ways
MMT can be injected under
continuously blending system and partial blending system. detailed plan can be
settled according to plant's existing equipment.
2-3 typical steps for blending
blend in good ventilation place
1. wear suitable personal protective
equipment(see table 2), avoid contacting overdose MMT
2.record the tanks' gross weight
before connecting the loaded MMT tanks
3.connect ground wire before make any
hose connecting. connect the nitrogen hose to three links of transportation
tubes. connect the MMT hose to container picking nozzle
4.when container's all valve is
closed, make trial test of nitrogen tube and hose's pressure.
if found leakage, repair or change
the leakage equipment
5.connect the nitrogen hose to
container's empty nozzle
6.open the container's nitrogen valve
and make container pressure to 0.1Mpa.
7.when close the upstream ball valve
of filter, turn on the valve on cylinder dip tube and upstream valve of mmt
hose. make sure no leakage from hose
8.make sure empty valve of filter and
calibration tube valve is closed, and turn on the meter pump input and output
valve
9.make sure to give pressure on Pulsation
damper(suggested given pressure as 80% of that of gasoline collection tube, Open
the pulsation buffer inlet valve
10.open gasoline blending collection tube ball valve and
filter’s upstream ball valve, and start meter pump, at the same time, gasoline
flow to blending collection tube.
11.set pump’s output, so that to supply the required
additive’s input speed
A. Record pump’s displacement reference
B. Record pump outlet pressure
C. Record pump start time
12.during gasoline blending process, record container’s
weight, outlet pressure, pump displacement reference every half an hour
13 the settle of blending quantity, pls. reference our
additive plan
14.when container is empty or operation is finished:
A.Stop meter pump
B.Stop the additives inlet valve on the blending collection
tube
C.Flow meter must keep full of liquid. When tanks are
empty, must take care to prevent air go into flow meter. The air can make flow
meter exceed speed, so that to damage mechanic spare parts in it.
15.empty the filter into one bucket and clean the filter
16.close the ball valve of nitrogen collection tube.
17.close the nitrogen vent valve and container’s pipe valve
and vent valve
When shift to
another container, u must make sure to release any nitrogen pressure left in empty container before disassembly
the connector.
Part 3
transportation
3-1 transportation container
The transportation container for MMT should be made of
steel, and hold MMT only
3-2 protection requirement
Should use dangerous chemical car to transport MMT. When
assembly and disassembly the connector, the operator must wear the protection
clothes and personal protection goods as below

3-2 discharge reference
A. wear suitable personal protection suits, avoid to
contact overdose MMT
B.Before connecting to fully loaded container, pls.record
the gross weight, and check with the delivery sheet
C. inspect and confirm if the position of tank is suitable
for discharging, so that u can use the shortest hose.
D. make sure the transportation truck stalled and hand brake, and fixed the wheel with
material, so that to make sure the truck won't move during discharge
E. Before connecting discharge connector, make sure to
connect ground wire
F. during unloading process, pls.set warning sign according
to local regulation and put obstacle on rail or railway tanks
G. inspect if the transport tanks' dome is leaking. if
found leakage,pls.clean the leakage point and polluted place, and then make
discharge.
H. put new gasket on tanks flange, and fixed the discharge
connector.
I. use Nitrogen to test pressure and leakage in hose and
connector
J. prepare bucket and suitable holder and absorptive material to collect leakage liquid when product
spillover
K. u can use low pressure nitrogen to
give pressure on transportation tanks to help draw tube discharge MMT.the
pressure of nitrogen must not exceed 0.6mPa
L.before transfer MMT, pls.make sure
the storage tank has enough space for mmt, and at the same time, make sure the
storage tanks' emptying port is open
M.to prevent open the tank under
possible positive pressure residue, must release the pressure
N. operator confirm there are no
pressure in tanks, and then open the emptying port of tank
Q.during the whole discharge process,
it is a must to arrange one person to take care of the truck
after finish additive tranportation
P.continue to absorb transfer tanks
15 seconds and clean all the liquid residue, close the empty port of tank
Q.stop the pump and turn off the
tanks' valve, disassemble the uploading connecting tube
R.add blind board on all liquid
valve. put plug on all empty port.
S.after finish all above steps, make
sure the tanks are ok for return, close the dome, release the brake and move
the warning sign and obstacle.
T.if the valve or other transportation
tanks report error, pls.mark it and notice the supplier.
Part 4
Operation system maintain
when disassemble and repair the MMT storage and transport
tube, equipment and spare parts(valve, meter,pump,parts),pls.follow the below
manu
A.follow all MMT safe operation reference
B. maintain staff should read and understand MMT additive's
MSDS.
C. before open the system, pls.use gasoline to deeply clean
the tube and use nitrogen exchange.
D. disassemble the device and other parts. thoroughly soaked and rinsed with Kerosene
E.use rag to dry device and other parts
F.if glove or other maintain device contacted MMT liquid,
pls.rinse with kerosene before move and use soap and water to wash hands
G.when finish the above steps, pls.maintain the device.
these device should have following warning words on it.

this device has been with toxic chemical. when disassemble,
pls.wear impervious gloves and protection glass. working at good ventilation
place. use kerosene clean and dry thoroughly. used kerosene and disassembled
spring piece and packing should be handled and processed according to local
regulation( better burn it). clean the hand and glove with soap and water

Precautions
under room temperature, MMT is light yellow transparent
liquid with slight grass flavor. when container is open, overflowed or leaked,
it might release harmful gas, and might be more under higher temperature, will
gather at poor ventilation place.
if MMT is close to fire, pls.wear anti-toxic apparatus to prevent
breath smoke, persons without any protection must leave immediately.pls.don't
handle or operate MMT before read MSDS. pls.take care of precautions on label
danger!

First Aid:
If overdose contacted, we suggest:1. First away from contaminated material, and then make first aid 2. Take
of contaminated clothes 3.all the excessive contact person should see a doctor

Eye contact: wash
with clean water over 15 min, see a doctor in time
Skin contact:take
of contaminated clothes, with skin with soap and water for at least 15min. if
inhale stop, make Artificial respiration. See a doctor in time
Ingestion :see
a doctor immediately. If the victim is conscious, let him drink a lot of pure
water. If he is unconscious, don’t eat any food. If he can’t see a doctor
within 1 hour, induce vomiting. Doctors, pls pay attention: if ingestion within
1 hour, keep good Respiratory, Gastric lavage and take activated carbon. If
ingestion exceed 1 hour, protect respiratory according and take activated
carbon.
Inhalation: immediately
move to good ventilation place. Rescuers should wear respiratory protection
device. If respiratory stop, make artificial respiratory. Keep victim warm and
calm and go to nearest hospital. If difficulty breathing, can use 100% O2

Purify and waste disposal steps
To reduce pollution and contact, pls.make
following steps at open and separate place
A. closed container which storage waste liquid
should be stored at good ventilation place before purification and dispose
B.contaminated clothes(non leather) can
use solvent like kerosene to clean, and then wash with soap and water. Leather
clothes or other seriously contaminated clothes should be burned
C.
pls.destroy
the contaminated protection gloves,rain boots,etc.
D.
Pls.dispose
the contaminated rag, gasket,leather wood, etc.according to relevant
regulations. Suggest to burn and landfill at safety chemical disposal places
E.
If
earth is polluted, u can use iron shovel to move the contaminated lay, about
7-8cm thickness. If want to know the MMT leakage thickness, pls.take sample and
analysis the organic Mn contents. The contaminated earth should be disposal
according to environment protection rules
F.
When
metal and concrete surface has been contaminated,1. Absorb the liquid residue
2.clean with kerosene 3.thoroughly rinse with soap and industrial water 4. Ventilation,
dry until brown spot has been cleaned
G.
Pls.pay
attention to identify MMT storage tank and gasoline storage tank with MMT. If
without permission, forbid to entry the pure MMT storage area.

Medical Guide
This operational manual is written for MMT
production staff, operation staff and doctor.
MMT is light yellow liquid with light grass flavor
under common temperature. If add into gasoline with recommended dosage, it is
not have poisoning risk.
It can be absorbed by skin,eye contact, inhale or
ingestion. If excessive contact, might lead to headache, Nausea, anxiety,
gastrointestinal discomfort,etc.

MMT is slightly solving in water, and can be
discomposed under light. The less its vapor pressure, the less danger the
inhale person will take
We don’t see any MMT chronic poisoning report
Excessive contact is very rare, mainly symptom:
burned skin, oral metallic flavor,headache, Nausea, anxiety, gastrointestinal
discomfort, difficult to respire, Chest tightness ,shake, etc. from study the
animals, we found high concentration MMT might damage lung, liver and kidney. Might
also cause over exciting of control nervous system

treatment
Acute poisoning:
Rescue ways
1.
contact:
wash with plenty clean water for 15-20min.take off contaminated clothes.
2.Ingestion:
see a doctor immediately. If the victim is conscious, let him drink a lot of
pure water. If he is unconscious, don’t eat any food. If he can’t see a doctor
within 1 hour, induce vomiting. Doctors, pls pay attention: if ingestion within
1 hour, keep good Respiratory, Gastric lavage and take activated carbon. If
ingestion exceed 1 hour, protect respiratory according and take activated
carbon.
3.inhalation: feel chest tightness, take
relative treatment
4.if twitch, control him by Benzodiazepine
or Phenobarbital
Chronic poisioning:no data
Personal protection equipment: when handle MMT,it might
spill, we use chemical protection gloves; Tarpaulin clothes; gas mask, safety
glass, chemical protection glass.
Diagnosis: no enough data
9-4 precautions
Regular medical examination
MMT Piosioning
Though MMT is a toxic
compound, but it is with low volatility and can be soon decomposed under light,
its danger is very limited, and toxic is very low. But if temperature over 33℃, it will speed up volatilize, u should prevent
inhale lots of MMT vapor
According to our
experience, MMT has No adverse effects on operation staff, no staff leave our
plant due to worry about mmt. We can control the danger of MMT
MMT storage tank: Pls.pay attention to identify MMT
storage tank and gasoline storage tank with MMT. If without permission, forbid
to entry the pure MMT storage area.
Storage tanks cleanness:when clean
MMT storage tank or gasoline storage tank with MMT additives,pls. refer to use
reference in this manual.
Precaution on overflow:refer to
