N-Methylaniline

N-Methylaniline
Synonyms: N-methylbenzenamine; N-Monomethylaniline; Anilinomethane; N-phenylmethylamine
Monomethylaniline; N-methylaminobenzene; Methylbenzeneamine; N-Methyl-phenylamine
(methylamino) benzene
N-Methylaniline (NMA) is an aniline derivative. It is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H5NH(CH3). The substance exists as a colorless or slightly yellow viscous liquid and turns brown when exposed to air. The chemical is insoluble in water. It is used as a latent and coupling solvent and is also used as an intermediate for dyes, agrochemicals and other organic products manufacturing. NMA is toxic and exposure can cause damage to the central nervous system and can also cause liver and kidney failure.

Use as a fuel additive

N-Methylaniline is a principal component of NMA (monomethylaniline), a non-traditional antiknock agent increasingly used by petroleum refiners and fuel distributors around the world to increase the octane number of gasoline petrol. It is usually added to gasoline in concentration of around 1.3% volume to avoid high gum levels that can cause increased carbon deposits in engine parts. Higher concentrations are permitted by most regulatory agencies if a detergent and a fuel combustion modifier are added to the component to keep gum formation from happening. NMA blended in those concentrations to gasoline / petrol is not more toxic than the hundreds of chemicals that compose this fuel.

May cause anemia and other blood cell abnormalities. Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause nausea, dizziness, and headache. Effects may be delayed.
Section4. First Aid Measures
Eyes:
In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical aid.
Skin:
In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid immediately. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:
If swallowed, do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid.
Inhalation:
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.
Notes to physician:
For methemoglobinemia, administer oxygen alone or with Methylene blue depending on the methemoglobinemia concentration in the blood.
Section5. Fire Fighting Measures
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. Combustible Liquid. Vapors are heavier than air and may travel to a source of ignition and flash back. Vapors can spread along the ground and collect in low or confined areas.
Extinguishing Media:
Water may be ineffective. For small fires, use dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or water spray. For large fires, use dry chemical, carbon dioxide, alcohol-resistant foam, or water spray. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out.
Autoignition Temperature: 500 deg C (932 deg F)
Flash point: 78 deg C (172.4 deg F)
Explosion Limits: N/A
NFPA Rating: (estimated) Health: 2; Flammability: 2; Instability: 0
Section6. Accidental Release Measures
General Information:
Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section8.
Spills/ Leaks:
Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth), then place in suitable container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches with lead to waterways. Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the protective equipment section. Remove all sources of ignition. Use a spark-proof tool. Provide ventilation.
Section7. Handling and Storage
Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Empty containers retain product residue, (liquid and/or vapor), and can be dangerous. Keep container tightly closed. Avoid contact with heat, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose empty containers to heat, sparks or open flames. Use only with adequate ventilation.
Storage:
Keep away from heat, sparks, and flames. Keep away from sources of ignition. Keep container closed when not in use. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Isolate from oxidizing materials and acids.
Section8. Exposure Controls/ Personal Protection
Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate general or local exhaust ventilation to keep airborne concentrations below the permissible exposure limits.
Personal Protective Equipments
Eyes:
Wear chemical goggles.
Skin:
Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure.
Clothing:
Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.
Respirators:
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29CRF 1910.134 or European Standard EN149. Always use a NIOSH or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator when necessary.

some suggestions for suppliers

i am import and export manager in my company,so  in my work, i also do some purchase job, i want to give some suggestions to global suppliers

1. reply emails within 1 day. now for common chemicals, there are so many suppliers all over the world, and when send inquiries, buyers always have truly demands and might need to decide as soon as possible, so if delay replying inquiries, might lose chance for new cooperation.
when i do export job, i always reply inquiry within one day.

2.when have free time, prepare formal quotation format, including simple introduction of company(one or two sentence is enough), product name, packing, quotation, quotation validity time, payment terms, container loading quantity, product TDS, MSDS and product picture, so when u receive new inquiry, u can just check sea freight, and make fast quotation

3.be specialize about the products u sell. don't take yourself only as a international sales, u need to know the product basic properties, basic knowledge about shipping, so that customer will take u as teacher and friends.

4. first give your quotation, and not ask customer's target price in advance, that is rude. also, i have meet some suppliers said they can make the proper products according to the target price i gave, that give me a feeling of they can make fake products, might mix cheap cargo in true products and make huge profits.

as sales,  not be  a beggar, to win the order, accept all requirements asked from buyer, that is not the right way to do business.
as sales, need to act as friend and sharer, let customers feel they can always learn products knowledge from u and feel sincere during cooperation.

that is my experience as exporter and importer
